This past weekend, my “trail” spanned from Minnesota to Utah and back. The last leg of our drive back to Minnesota was treacherous. Ice-covered roads and blinding blowing snow slowed our pace down to 30 mph on some stretches of the freeway. We passed countless cars in the ditch and as many as seven or eight rollovers. Even at our slow speed, we fishtaled a couple of times, which was doubly frightening pulling a horse trailer. Every muscle in my body was clenched as I held my breath until we made it to the next gas stop or rest area.
Benefits of Intercession
Along the way, I posted prayer requests on Facebook. I received replies from several people within minutes that they were praying for our safety. People checked in periodically to see how we were progressing. It was so reassuring to know that others we interceding for us. It bolsters my confidence in God’s power and desire to answer prayer when I know that several people are praying. And I feel loved and important, and a part of the larger family of God. I wouldn’t choose to face yesterday’s driving conditions again, however, it was such a blessing to be on the receiving end of intercession.
Be Encouraged and Encouraging
In my previous post, I encouraged readers to pray for strangers. Yesterday I was reminded what it feels like to receive prayer. If you’re praying for a stranger via Prayer Works, be sure to let that person know your prayed for them by clicking on their prayer or sending them a note. They’ll be so encouraged. And if others are praying for you, try to let them know how the prayers were answered. They’ll be so encouraged.
Romans 1:12 (NLT): When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours.
For those of you who prayed for us yesterday, we eventually pulled off the road and got a hotel for the night. We really wanted to make it home but we realized that our desire was jeopardizing our safety. Thank you for your prayers. Hopefully the final leg of our drive will be much less eventful today.
