I know it but I don’t like it.
Sizzle sells.
People are drawn to controversy, juicy gossip and half-truth hearsay. We like a competition and to see the underdog come out on top.
Why? Why are we not as drawn to wholesomeness and godliness?
I’ve been writing “Teachings” for a couple of years now. In fact, WordPress tells me this is my 399th post. As much as I try to follow all of the “rules” for building a blog following, my stats are pretty weak. I often remind myself that I’m writing for God and myself and others can follow along if they choose. It helps me press on in spite of my dismal stats.
About three weeks ago I started another blog/website related to the race track development. Being the polarizing issue that it is in our community, that site has blown “Teaching” out of the water in number of visitors. Saturday, there were 167 people who went to that site. Two days later, over 230 people went to the site. I’ve never had 167 or 230 people visit this blog in a single day. Sometimes I don’t even get that much traffic in a month.
The comparison is pretty sad, really. The reality is that what our world needs more of — reflections of faith and God in the world — is not what it wants.
Can you imagine what our society would be like if God were as popular as the Super Bowl or the latest Mission Impossible movie? What if we could talk about God as openly as we talk about the Vikings and the Packers? What if we devoted our time not to activities that pit one side against another but to activities that brought unity and harmony to our culture.
That would truly be the fulfillment of the Lord’s prayer, “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Heaven on earth. Can you imagine?
Question: What would it take to make God as appealing or popular as a worldly pursuits?

I love reading what you write and look forward to each one.
