When I’m with my horse, I don’t want to miss who he is. He is a unique and expressive being. As a Christian, I don’t want to miss Jesus. Without his love working in me and through me, I’m just an educated unbeliever.

Stone bruises

Ernie and I have been riding on our dirt road frequently. The road is covered with not-so-crushed rocks that hurt Ernie’s feet. We continue riding on the road even though it’s not comfortable for Ernie because it’s quick and convenient, and it’s what we know.

As a dear friend nears death, those of us who will say goodbye are bewildered and heart broken. We know that we must go on living, however hard it may be. More importantly, we know we must go on living together. Continue reading

A Season of Preparation

Buying hay, saws and (gasp!) a tractor. My body aches from all of the work. I’m preparing for a very special homecoming later this month. Ernie is finally coming home. Continue reading
A Fragrant Smell

Ernie has a ritual. Every time I return him to the pasture after a ride, he drops to his knees, then onto his side and wiggles back and forth, rolls onto his back, and grinds dirt into his hair and skin. So much for the grooming I did prior to the ride! He’s dirty once again, just like all the other horses in the pasture. Continue reading
