Why do we give gifts or do things for others? Is it to receive their gratitude or indebtedness? To receive their praise or approval? To gain something in return? To get them to like us more? Or do we do these things to express our love and care? Even when people didn’t receive the gift of Jesus and his redemption, he still gave his life. He did it out of love, not for anything in return. It is a free gift from God. We need to give without expectations as well.

Skepsis Week 6: Hypocrisy

This past Sunday’s Skepsis talk is one with which I wrestle personally – hypocrisy. I don’t wrestle with it because I see the seeming contradiction of Christians who boldly profess their faith and then act in contrast. I struggle because I know that at times people see me as the hypocrite and that pains me deeply. It also makes me ever grateful for the grace of God. Continue reading
